Lower Eastern Region
The Lower Eastern Himalayas of Nepal, which lie south of the majestic peaks of Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga, are a region rich in natural and cultural diversity. With an elevation range of 1,500 to 3,500 meters, this region includes the middle-hill districts of Khotang, Bhojpur, Solukhumbu (lower sections), Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, and Taplejung. Rich forests, undulating hills, wide ridgelines, and a broad perspective of the upper mountains to the north are some of the area’s most alluring qualities.
The Kirat Rai and Limbu peoples are among the many ethnic groups that call the Lower Eastern Himalayas home. Their distinctive languages, traditions, and spiritual practices have been preserved for many generations. In addition, this region boasts an abundance of endangered birds, stunning rhododendron woods, and vibrantly colored flora, making it a perfect destination for ecotourism, cultural exploration, and gentle adventure hiking.
The Tinjure Trek and the Mundum Trek are two incredibly beautiful treks in Nepal’s Lower Eastern Himalayas that offer a blend of environment and culture at a moderate elevation.
The spiritual and cultural heritage of the Kirat Rai tribe is displayed along the Mundum Trail as it passes through Khotang, lower Solukhumbu, and Bhojpur. It boasts secluded settlements, holy sites, and breathtaking views of Makalu, Everest, and other eastern peaks, which are typically between 1,500 and 4,200 meters high.
The Tinjure Trek is known for its dense forests covered in rhododendron, its abundance of birds, and its far-off views of Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Everest. It is located in and out of the Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale Ridge via Taplejung, Tehrathum, and Sankhuwasabha. Mostly, it remains below 3,000 meters. Both hikes are serene, unspoiled, and appropriate for people who are interested in nature and culture.
