Karnali Region

Although it is the most remote and underdeveloped region in Nepal, there is a lot of potential for tourism here. Mountain districts including Dolpa, Jumla, Humla, Mugu, Kalikot, and Surkhet are found in the midwestern Himalayas. It is blessed with stunning scenery, the high Himalayan peaks, deep river valleys, ancient trade routes, and an unadulterated cultural legacy. Excellent for tourists seeking genuine country living above congested trekking routes, spiritual seclusion, and off-the-beaten-path adventures.

The other attractions of the Karnali region include Shey Phoksundo National Park, whose highlight is Phoksundo Lake it is the deepest and beautiful lake in Nepal and also famous for the turquoise color. There are other trek routes, including Upper Dolpa Trek, Rara Lake Trek (which includes Mugu), and Limi Valley Trek (which includes Humla). The sights it has to offer are rare peeks into Tibetan-influenced cultures, centuries-old monasteries, and little village-like settlements that preserve ancient customs. The importance of this area is also due to the connectivity it has with the Great Himalayan Trail and old salt trade routes to Tibet. Despite its lack of infrastructure, Karnali’s natural beauty, profound spirituality, and rich cultural diversity make it one of Nepal’s most promising destinations for adventure, ecotourism, and cultural tourism.
